Confirm your own eligibility
TRICARE For Life applies to the individual who qualifies. It does not automatically extend that person’s coverage to every family member. Check each family member’s situation with TRICARE, especially when birthdays and Medicare start dates differ.
Check both Medicare dates
For eligible people, coverage starts when both Part A and Part B are effective. Confirm those dates before assuming there is no gap. Ask TRICARE about your specific status and Medicare requirements, including any exception that may apply.
Identify other insurance
Tell the appropriate administrators if you also have employer insurance or another health plan. Payment order and claim procedures can differ. TRICARE generally pays after most other insurance. Ask who files claims and what documents you should retain.
Ask before adding another plan
Before choosing a Medicare Advantage plan or supplement, ask what problem the additional coverage would solve and how it changes your provider access or paperwork. Get a clear explanation of coordination rather than assuming more cards always mean a better fit.
Keep a reliable contact list
Save the official TRICARE For Life resource, your Medicare information, and the relevant claims contact. Revisit the arrangement if employment or other coverage changes. A broker conversation should complement the official benefit guidance, not replace eligibility confirmation.
