Could I get help with costs?

Two programs worth understanding.

The short answer

Medicare Savings Programs may help with Part A or Part B costs. Extra Help assists eligible people with Part D prescription costs. Qualification and application rules differ.

A little more detail

What is a Medicare Savings Program?

These state-run programs can help pay Medicare premiums. Some also help with deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. Your state decides eligibility; its rules can be more generous than federal limits.

What is Extra Help?

Extra Help can reduce Part D premiums and other prescription costs for people with limited income and resources. Some people qualify automatically; others apply. You do not pay a Part D late enrollment penalty while receiving Extra Help.

Where do I apply?

Contact your state Medicaid office for Medicare Savings Programs. Apply for Extra Help through Social Security, or ask SHIP for application assistance. Income and resource limits change, so check the current official pages linked below.

What should I gather?

Have information about income, resources, and current coverage ready for the official application. Do not put Social Security numbers, bank details, or medical records into a general website chat.
