Can I keep my doctor on Medicare?

Usually yes, but the route you pick decides it. Original Medicare works with any doctor in the country who accepts Medicare, and the vast majority do. Medicare Advantage uses networks, so there the answer lives in your plan’s directory.

Original + Supplement

Any Medicare doctor, anywhere

No networks and no referrals. If a doctor accepts Medicare, they accept you, in all 50 states. This is the route people pick when keeping specific doctors is non-negotiable.

Medicare Advantage

Network rules apply

HMO plans generally cover only in-network care. PPO plans cover out-of-network at a higher cost. Every plan publishes a directory, and the right plan often comes down to whose directory your doctors are in.

The annual catch

Networks change

Doctors join and leave plan networks every year, and plans redraw them. A plan that fits perfectly today deserves a fresh look each fall during the Oct 15 to Dec 7 window.

Never trust a brochure over a phone call. Plan directories go stale. Before any client enrolls, we verify their exact doctors directly with the plan. It takes minutes and prevents the worst surprise in Medicare.

Shop doctors first, plans second

Most people shop backwards: pick a plan for the premium, then discover which doctors it covers. The right order is a list of your doctors and prescriptions first, then only the plans that fit all of it.

That is the whole Medcora process in one sentence. Bring your doctor list and we run it against every major carrier in your ZIP code, free. See how it works.

Related questions

What if my doctor stops taking Medicare entirely? +

Rare, but it happens. Doctors who formally opt out bill you privately under contract, and neither Medicare nor a plan pays. Your options are paying privately or changing doctors.

Do I need referrals to see specialists? +

On Original Medicare, no. On many HMO Advantage plans, yes, through your primary doctor first. PPO plans usually skip referrals too.

My doctor left my plan mid-year. Am I stuck? +

Sometimes no. Certain situations qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, and continuity-of-care rules can bridge active treatment. Call us before paying out of pocket.
